New kitchen modernises Berkshire couple’s open plan kitchen, living and dining space
Overview
The Butlers were looking to update their kitchen which fitted neatly in the corner of their beautiful open plan living area. They wished to retain the footprint of their existing kitchen, but wanted the new units, tops and splashbacks to bring a fresh look and feel to the room.
In addition, most of the kitchen appliances were to be replaced.
Open to suggestions, the Butlers did have some specific requirements, including the need for a hob that would house their large fish kettle (which they brought to the showroom to ‘try for size’ on different hobs).
Thatcham Kitchens was recommended to the Berkshire couple, so they visited the kitchen showroom in March 2020 (just before the first lockdown). Unfortunately plans had to be put on hold for a few months when we were forced to shut shop, so the survey wasn’t completed until government guidelines changed.
Once we could open again, the survey went ahead and final plans were drawn up and agreed. The fit took 3 weeks to complete.
See what Thatcham Kitchens created for the Butlers
The couple settled on Shaker Style kitchen units with a woodgrain ash finish in Priory Blue and Calico; adding colour and texture to the kitchen area.
Stunning Corian worktops (in Dune Prima colour) were chosen to offset the stylish units. The addition of a Corian sink allowed Thatcham Kitchens to create a seamless look between the worktops and the sink area.
Corian worktops and sinks not only look fabulous and add a touch of luxury to your kitchen, they also have the following benefits:
Custom-fit, colour-coded splashback
Behind the hob, a glass splashback was custom-made to fit the entire length of the wall. Glass splashback are very easy to clean compared to tiles or painted walls and deliver a more contemporary look for your kitchen – or can even add a feature colour. They are available in a satin or gloss finish.
The Spiced Honey colour of the splashback was colour-matched from a paint code. Colour-matching is possible with many leading paint manufacturers such as Dulux and Farrow & Ball. Just pick the colour you love and we’ll do the rest!
Kitchen tower for ovens
The original kitchen had two ovens situated underneath the hob. The addition of a tower in the corner allowed both ovens to be positioned at a more comfortable height to insert or remove food items.
Hygiene plus setting for dishwashing
The integrated dishwasher also delivered more hygiene options. With a Hygiene Plus setting dishes, glasses and cutlery can be washed at a higher temperature – ideal if you have guests round for lunch in the garden and want to keep everyone safer.
