How a picture steered the design of new kitchen in Berkshire
The Gadsdens wished to modernise their existing kitchen/diner. They wanted to make better use of the space, replacing their current freestanding furniture with neatly fitted units that would still show off their glassware and provide an interesting feature for the dining area of the kitchen. They also hoped to replace their existing island with a longer version, but an entry door from the hallway was causing a pinch point; so needed Thatcham Kitchens to come up with a solution. In terms of colour scheme, the chosen units and décor needed to compliment a picture that the couple wished to be a feature on their dining room wall.
What Thatcham Kitchens did for the Gadsdens
Blue hues deliver flow and perfect colour-coordination
Selecting accent colours from the Gadsdens painting, Caroline from Thatcham Kitchens suggested the Bridgewater Shaker range, available in Priory Blue and Mussel. This two-tone duo delivered a contemporary feel whilst bringing elegance and brightness to the room. The priory blue colour was used for the island units as well as the inside of the glass-fronted display unit, ensuring the colour scheme coordinated with the painting. In addition, the painted back wall was colour-matched to compliment the blue kitchen wall units and the chosen Amtico flooring had blue hints too.
Larger island provides a comfy place to chat and socialise whilst cooking
The couple’s previous square kitchen island was replaced with a longer rectangular version. This was made possible by Thatcham Kitchen changing the existing door for a sliding version, eliminating the pinch pointfrom the hallway, andcreating the space needed for a larger kitchen island. Smart island storage on both sides also made best use of this central space and installing a Bosch induction venting hob meant that the hob could be fitted on the kitchen island without the need fora ceiling extractor –delivering an airy feel for the room. On the far end of the island, a small breakfast bar area was installed, allowing a more sociable space to chat when cooking.
Worktops that are just made for compliments
The ‘piece de resistance’ must be those stunning worktops! The Detkon worktops from Consentino have a marble-look finish. Simply beautiful.
Filtered water on tap
With a water softener installed, Thatcham Kitchens fitted a tap which could provide both hot and cold softened water as well as filtered drinking water.
